Guest Speaker Bio

Mehreen Baig 

English with Drama PGCE, 2012 

Mehreen Baig is a former teacher turned broadcaster and author. She has emerged as an influential voice across a range of topics such as feminism, faith and race and gender equality.  

Following her graduation from the IOE, she worked as an English teacher in a North London secondary school and was promoted to a senior role within her first five years. Her move from teaching to broadcasting began in 2017, when Mehreen took part in the BBC documentary Muslims Like Us, which won a BAFTA award for Reality and Constructed Factual. Later that year she was named one of the most inspirational and powerful women of the year by The Telegraph, alongside Michelle Obama and Adele. 

Other recent broadcasting credits have included The Truth About Cosmetic Treatments for BBC One, Inside Chelsea: Britain’s Wealthiest Borough for BBC Two and a podcast The Secret Life of Teachers for BBC Radio 4. Last year Mehreen published Hidden Lessons: Growing Up on the Frontline of Teaching in which she shares stories from her decade of teaching experience. She continues to tutor and coach young people to achieve their life goals, as well as working as a broadcaster with a special interest in schools and education.
