Iain Chessell 

Pharmacology BSc, 1990 

Dr Iain Chessell is Head of Neuroscience at AstraZeneca. Based in Cambridge, he serves on AstraZeneca’s BioPharmaceuticals leadership team and leads a cross-functional team dedicated to discovery and clinical development of the neuroscience portfolio. 

Following a bachelor’s degree in pharmacology at UCL, he received his doctoral degree from the Institute of Neurology.His previous roles have included Head of Pain Research and Development for GlaxoSmithKline, where he was involved in 20 development projects from Phase 1 to Phase 3 and CEO at NeuroDiscovery, where he completed a number of clinical programmes for analgesia. In 2008 he joined MedImmune as Vice-President, Research, to iniaiate neuroscience research and became head of its Neuroscience Center of Excellence, before joining AstraZeneca. 

Iain manages several high profile academic and industrial collaborations and is the author of more than 100 peer-reviewed publications.
